Hello guys, after great opening ceremony of IPL 2023 16th season, Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to bowl first against Chennai Super Kings.
Super Kings had a lot going for them. Ruturaj Gaikwad was batting with incredible ease. All he had to do was extend his shots – the defence went for six down the ground, flicks went for six over midwicket. He finished with 92 off 50 balls. He missed his century by just 8 runs.
But around him, there was very little. It became especially dire in the middle and final overs where Ambati Rayudu and Shivam Dube in particular were shut down with the high pace of Alzarri Joseph and the left-arm angle of Josh Little. That phase of play dragged Super Kings from a total above 200 to only 178.
Chennai Super Kings posted 178/7 against the Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Friday. Except for Gaikwad, none of the Chennai batters could get any advantage from the surface but captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni gave it a go as he scored 14 runs from 7 balls including a 6 and a 4.
Chasing the target of 179 runs, TItans’ batting is top heavy. GT’s Shubman Gill scored a whopping 63 runs in just 36 balls. But the major turnout of the match was Rashid Khan and Rahul Tewatia’s finishing touch. The bowling allrounders, Tewatia and Rashid, rose to the occasion and in style too.GT won the TATA IPL 2023 opener by beating CSK by 5 wickets.
