The match was held in Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Mumbai Indians won the toss and decided to bowl first. This is fourth match of MI, where they lost first & second match against RCB & CSK by 8 wickets & 7 wickets respectively and won third match against DC by 6 wickets. This is fifth match of KKR, and they won two matches. Won against RCB by 81 runs, against GT by 3 wickets, whereas lose first match against PBK by 7 runs and against SRH by 23 runs.
The opening batman from KKR was Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Narayan Jagadeesan. But Narayan Jagadeesan lost his wicket just on zero run to green. Venkatesh Iyer was next player on field. He took charge on field. He started to hit MI bowlers. It was looking for a big partnership between the two players, but Rahmanullah Gurbaz lose his wicket to Piyush Chawla. Rinku Singh was next player on field. From other side, Venkatesh Iyer completed his first century in just 49 balls. This is his first hundred in T20 and IPL carrier. But immediately he lost his wicket on 104 runs made in 51 balls containing 6 fours and 9 big sixes. Andre Russell was next player on field. Russell hit some good shot on field in last some overs and finally, KKR were made score of 185 runs on 6 wickets.
Taking target of 186 runs in 20 overs, opening batman from Mumbai Indians were Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan. Both batman gave good opening for Mumbai Indians. Ishan Kishan started hitting to KKR bowlers. But when score was 65 runs Rohit lost his wicket on 20 runs made in 13 balls. Suryakumar Yadav was next player on field. Suryakumar Yadav took charge on field. After that Ishan Kishan completed his fifty just in 21 balls by hitting four runs. But he also lost his wicket on 58 runs made in 25 balls. Tilak Varma was next player on field. Then both player made good runs for Mumbai Indians. They shots all over the ground. But Tilak Varma lost his wicket to Suyash Sharma. He made 30 runs in 25 balls. Tim David was next player on field. Tim David increase speed of runs. Suryakumar Yadav lost his wicket on 43 runs made in just 25 balls. But finally, Mumbai Indians won the match by 5 wickets in 18th over. Tim David was remains not out on 24 runs made in just 13 balls. This is successive win from Mumbai Indians.
